SOUTH FLORIDA HURRICANE WATCH ISSUED – Good afternoon everyone. Hurricane watches have been issued for South Florida in regards to Hurricane Irma. This means that Hurricane force winds and conditions are possible within the next 48-72 hours. The time to gather supplies is done, most of the area in Irma’s path have empty shelves and empty gas stations. Now is the time to go over your evacuation plans, finding out where the nearest designated shelters are, and making plans to keep yourself safe, children, pets, and to safeguard the essential valuables/important documents.

Irma’s final path only crucial at this point in regards to catastrophic vs. heavy damage

Irma continues to weigh in at a Category 5 hurricane, with 175mph winds, 215mph gusts, 921mb of pressure, and moving WNW 16mph towards the Bahamas. With model run after model run very close to one another, we need to start talking about the reality of Irma and what to expect. This is the latest GFS run, which shows the center of Irma maybe 10-20miles offshore. This would mean that the most powerful of winds (purple), would reach the major metropolitan areas.

FOR EXAMPLE; If Irma is a Category 4  at landfall, these areas (purple) would experience near or at Category 4 sustained winds, with possible Category 5 wind gusts. The area in red, would experience near or at Category 3 sustained winds and possible Category 4 gusts. The area in blue would experience Tropical Storm Force winds, with hurricane force gusts possible. Remember, the storm would be approaching the southern tip of Florida and moving north, so this frame is just one position. As it moves south to north, The Florida Keys, Homestead, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Boynton, Boca, Delray, West Palm, and areas up the coast, would all experience hurricane force winds and possibly the most powerful winds depending on the final track. ****According to current model solutions, the  areas in orange (coastline), would all sustain life threatening storm surge regardless of whether the center of Irma drifts 10-30 miles east or west.****

Do not ignore Hurricane Irma, I can’t be any more plain about it. Most people on the planet have not witnessed the power of a hurricane like this. I know it’s hard to comprehend, but trust me, you want no part of it. If you are in these areas, take necessary action now and have a plan in place. Riding it out in your house is not an option, this is a true, life threatening situation. Having hurricane shutters DOES NOT PROTECT THE CRUCIAL STRUCTURE OF THE HOUSE, its only protects the windows. Property can be replaced, lives cannot, and your presence cannot stop the wrath of nature. If your house was spared when you return to it and you took the proper action, consider yourself lucky, not a fool for preparing.
