Showers Storms Tonight Weekend Forecast Holds

Showers Storms Tonight Weekend Forecast Holds

Good morning everyone. As promised, you’re waking up to some scattered showers across the area. Those should clear on out of the NYC area eventually and make way for a fairly warm day before showers and storms move back in. Meanwhile, everything I’ve been talking about for the past 2 days, seems to be solidifying; and we could squeeze out a good weekend if it continues to hold.

SATELLITE

For this morning, we’ll have cloudy skies with scattered sprinkles/showers representing the edge of warmer air. I think by 12-1pm, we clear everything out and that warmer, more humid air settles in over us. Expect highs in the upper 70’s to low 80’s, cooler at the immediate shore and sunshine dependent. Less sun and we shave a few degrees off, more sun and a few mid 80’s could pop.

Some time between late afternoon and late evening, showers and storms will begin to head in with the main batch of moisture from this system. I don’t think we’re looking at anything severe, but heavy rain could cause localized flooding in poor drainage areas; plus some flooding due to saturation. We’ll keep an eye out on the severe part, because this time of year, there’s always room for a surprise. Expect about an inch or so in spots that see the heavy rain.

For tomorrow, I spoke about upper air energy that could pop off a few individual thunderstorms upstate. It looks now that some of that energy may sink further south, giving us the slight chance of a thunderstorm as the sun destabilizes the atmosphere. These will be scattered, small, individual cells; some of which could be capable of pea size hail and gusty winds. If by some chance they make it to the coast, I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of a weak waterspout either.

Regardless, clouds and sun, combined with drying westerlies, will help boost us into the low to mid 80’s in most spots tomorrow.

REGIONAL RADAR

High pressure completely dominates from our north both Friday and Saturday, with comfortable, seasonal, and dry conditions throughout. Expect sunny skies and upper 70’s to low 80’s both days.

Sunday was in question as to if high pressure could hold on for 1 more day and it looks as if it does. We should have another sunny one with upper 70’s to low 80’s once again.

LOCAL RADAR NEW YORK CITY

High pressure either lets go or begins to let go on Monday, with increasing clouds and the slight chance of showers. It’s too far ahead to call the timing of any rain, but at some point it does let go and we do get some good, soaking rain in the area. We could eek out another dry one Monday, we might get through half of it; but either way, we have big rain coming at some point between the beginning of the week to mid week next week.
