NYC Severe Weather Possible This Evening

Good morning everyone. Hot weather reemerges in parts of the Northeast, as well as the chance of some severe weather with energy riding around the edge of our heat dome.

Heating of the day, along with the help of a wave of low pressure, will help spawn heavy showers and storms throughout the Ohio Valley and into Pennsylvania. We’re expecting those storms to reach severe limits and reach into parts of New Jersey and upstate New York as they trudge eastward. We’ll also watch closely to see if those storms survive the trip to New York City, which is quite possible. The biggest risk with these storms will be large hail, damaging winds, frequent lightning, and torrential rain.

Also on our radar, is the continuation of severe weather leftover from last night and now impacting parts of Oklahoma and Arkansas. We’re expecting these storms to eventually reach in to parts of northeast Texas and northern Louisiana before fizzling out. That being said, we still have a ways to go on this, and these storms have had a history of winds in excess of 70mph, very large hail, and flooding rains.

For today, 90’s make another showing with humid conditions and sun & clouds. That energy mentioned above, will give us the chance for heavy showers and thunderstorms later this evening and overnight hours. Some of those storms may reach severe limits.

WEATHER RADAR

Expect AM showers and rumbles tomorrow, then clearing up and still very warm. That “cooler” air lags behind as mid to upper 80’s will be common tomorrow. Full sunshine returns on Friday for a very comfortable day near 80 degrees.

Humidity creeps back on Saturday with low 80’s and the chance of a few showers or storms. On Sunday, we’re back to near 90 with more showers and storms possible.
