NYC HEATWAVE CONTINUES MARCH SEVERE STORMS FRIDAY
NYC HEATWAVE CONTINUES MARCH SEVERE STORMS FRIDAY – Good morning everyone. The NYC heatwave continues although we’re off to a slow start at the immediate coast with fog. Our forecast is holding strong, but the timing of Friday’s cold front may have some consequences.
Most areas away from the coast have sunny skies, with puffy clouds, and are into the 80’s already. As promised yesterday, the moisture content was going to increase. This equates to coastal dense fog in the morning, then sun and cumulus clouds for everyone during the rest of the day. Look for low to mid 90’s for most places and very muggy.
For the Fourth of July tomorrow, we turn up the juice even more with the chance of a thunderstorm. Highs in the upper 80’s and most of the action will be confined to the interior and update locales, but we could get a stray boomer here as well. Thursday looks to be a repeat of today, with morning fog, PM cumulus clouds dotting the sky. Look for some icy cirrus creeping in as well with a vigorous cold front heading our way for Friday.
Yesterday, I discussed the timing of Friday’s front and how it’ll be crucial to how strong our thunderstorms will be. As of this moment, it looks more like an afternoon approach as opposed to after sunset. This would set us up for the chance of widespread severe weather and a long squall line stretching from Maine to Ohio. With two decidedly different air masses ahead and behind the front, we should see enough lift and instability to see damaging, straight-line winds, frequent lightning, torrential rain, hail, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes.
We’ll have to wait and see how it plays out exactly, but you have plenty of time to prepare and be ready as far as securing light items on the porch and outdoor furniture. Also, Friday won’t be the day to go venture out kayaking or be out on a boat, so be smart and get your fishing in now. You have 3 nice days (when the fog lifts) to enjoy yourself without putting self and/or first responders at risk trying to save you in the middle of severe weather.
The weekend continues to look beautiful, with low to mid 80’s, low humidity, blue skies, and breezy conditions both Saturday and Sunday.
