NORTHEAST NYC MARCH 2018 ANGRY BEN SNOW FORECAST

Good evening everyone. The forecast has taken a turn for the worse as low pressure looks to be able to harness more energy and come closer to the coast. This poses some problems, creates a lot of questions, and complicates things as far as who sees what in the big scheme of things.

I believe with a closer approach, mixing may be an issue, especially for the south shore of Long Island and the Forks of Long Island. This will hold down amounts in areas if this were to happen. Also remember, we’re in March, and it may take a while for things to get going/start sticking. We’ve seen this problem before in the past three storms and while the ground may be colder this time around, I’m still taking this into consideration moderately.

This morning’s experimental snow map took into consideration us being on the northern fringe of a compressed and less powerful system. Now we are seeing the chance of that precip field expanding way over the area and a more powerful system closer to the coast.

Along with snow ill be an issue with the wind and coastal flooding possible. Storm warnings are up for the NJ coast and storm watches are up for Long Island coastal areas. Given the right intensity of snow, this may transfer into Blizzard Warnings for parts of the region, especially coastal areas.

Timing and the priority of this system remains Tuesday night into Wednesday, with peak intensity coming between Wednesday morning and Wednesday afternoon. Stay tuned as we fine tune everything to give you the most accurate forecast possible.
