NERVOUS NYC WATCHES IRMA – Good morning everyone. Naturally, only 5 years removed from Hurricane Sandy, New York City gets nervous when model runs bring a powerful hurricane in the vicinity of the area.

We continue to have a long way to go, but it’s important to realize the reality of having to keep a close eye on this one. At this point, the entire East Coast needs to remain vigilant until we can narrow down a tighter path.

As of now, Irma remains a category 2 hurricane with 110mph winds and is expected to strengthen. Eventually, it will interact with the air masses running across the United States, deciding it’s fate and ours. Nothing has changed in the sense that the Euro takes it south while the GFS takes it further north. This is why nobody is out of the woods at this point and with so much time to go, we could see some changes.

Continue to prepare if you have not already and have a plan in case a landfall becomes a certainty. Remember, the planning that I’m suggesting are things that should be done every season, storm or not. This is not an official warning, just a reminder to be smart and plan ahead.

For Labor Day Weekend, rain is still expected later today, with cool temps in the upper 60’s. Tomorrow, rain lasts through late morning/early afternoon and we’ll creep up into the mid 70’s. Monday is looking beautiful with highs near 80 and sunny skies.
