HURRICANE JOSE MODELS SHOW COASTAL CLOSE CALL – Good morning everyone. This morning, the GFS model has trended very slightly west, almost back to its original one a few days ago. The EURO got rid of it’s strange dance, and is now mirroring the GFS very closely (for now).

Hopefully, things remain as far west as it’ll possibly get, because any closer and people of eastern Long Island and Cape Cod will need start preparing for some stronger effects aside from an outer rain-band and a stiff breeze.

This is why we need to keep a close eye on Jose and not be quick to make any calls either way. The steering currents want to swing Jose out to sea, but it’s going to be a wide swing. How wide that swing is could determine if the east coast gets affected by him or not.

Also, while Jose is looking ragged right now due to shear, I wouldn’t discount any strengthening once he’s on the move again in a “normal” direction. Some sites are not predicting this, and it’s possible the damage is done on Jose and he can’t recover; but with shear relaxing and still over good water, I don’t want any surprises, so I’m keeping the idea open.

With the scare Irma gave us 2 weeks ago with some outrageous models/scenarios, you should already have supplies on hand and a plan in your head in case Jose turns out to be a last minute surprise. That being said, I think we’ll have a really good idea by Saturday on Jose and if we do need to prepare, we’ll have plenty of time.

As of now, we’ll just keep a close eye on Hurricane Jose and hope he continues to just be a treat for surfers when it’s time. At this very moment, that’s how it looks to be, but it’s important to keep that window open for safety’s sake.

On the local front, NYC will see clouds and sun today, with some scattered heavy showers out and about. We’ll have humid day with highs in the low to mid 80’s depending on how much sun we see.
