HURRICANE IRMA CONTINUES MARCH TOWARDS HISTORY – Good morning everyone. As a beautiful day in the mid 70’s is upon us here in the New York City area, we pray for the victims of Irma caused by her wrath in the northern islands of the Caribbean; and wait with bated breath for our fellow citizens in the Southeast with what they will endure.

Hurricane Irma continues her march towards the Bahamas and continues to have her sights set on Florida, then the southeast coast. She has winds of 180mph, gusts to 220, and continues on a WNW track at a steady 17mph.

There was some slight weakening with the inflow interacting with Puerto Rico, but do not be fooled. Structurally, Irma is sound and for wood frame homes typical with most developments, 140mph winds are just as bad as 180, so treat this monster with respect even if she weakens slightly due to Island interaction.

Models continue to paint a bleak picture for south Florida, with one of our best models pointing out a worst case scenario for Key Largo to almost Cape Canaveral, and the other dependable model showing something too close to call for any computer or human expert.

With the GFS model showing an east coast brush of south Florida, there  are no means out there to accurately tell whether the eyewall can dip into the I95 corridor. This is why you need to prepare and take action as if it could. Storms this strength and size typically wobble along the way, and a wobble the wrong way could be the difference between replacing a roof and replacing a house.

Obviously, if the track winds up talking the EURO interpretation, be prepared when all is said and done, to see large scale destruction along the I95 corridor.

After she’s done with Florida, we wait and see what’s in store for the Georgia, South Carolina, and/or Norrh Carolina coast. Everyone up there should be finalizing their emergency plans at this point, while we focus on Florida and try to pinpoint as accurately as possible a final track and what to expect exactly with that track.
