HURRICANE IRMA AFTERNOON UPDATE – Good afternoon everyone. As expected, Hurricane Irma has weakened just slightly to a strong Category 2 as it has entered cooler waters. However, this will short-lived and once it emerges into the hot water east of the Leeward Islands, expect it to rapidly intensify.

Models continue to keep Irma too close for comfort to the East Coast of the United States. Morning models trend it a little more comfortabley away, afternoon models bring it close enough to affect the coast in one form or another. It is still way too far out to make any calls and we should have a better idea as it enters Caribbean waters or just north of.

For this reason, we need to continue to keep a close eye on her, and we will update as things unfold whether it’s positive or negative. The smart thing to do is continue to go over your emergency supplies and plans. Update and arrange what is needed just in case, even if you don’t end up having to put any emergency plans into effect. Let’s hope she goes out to sea, but be ready if she doesn’t.
