FIRST PRELIMINARY 2017 NYC ECLIPSE OUTLOOK – Good afternoon everyone! We’re enjoying a very warm and dry day as most of the area has risen into the mid to upper 80’s; with some parts of NYC reaching 90°, but that’s not why we’re here.

I’ve been getting a lot of questions as far as how the weather is going to be for the eclipse on Monday August 21. The eclipse, peaking around 2:40-2:50pm next Monday is a certainty. Whether we can see it or not is another question.

Just like today, another area of weak high pressure will look to drift over the area. As it moves off of the coast, it’s possible that clouds and scattered showers move in behind it. Timing will be key and most models at this point for a 7 day outlook have a -/+ 1 day margin of error.

If everything is behind as little as 6-12hrs, we could enjoy a sunny and very warm day before clouds move in late in the evening. If everything is “on-time”, it will be a very close call with the clouds; and if things are slightly ahead of schedule, we may not see it at all.

As of this very moment, I give us a 55-65% chance of seeing the eclipse in the NYC area. Remember, this is very prelimary and there are many factors involved, including a possible tropical system that doesn’t even exist yet, so stayed tuned.
