BEAUTIFUL STRETCH PRECEDES UNSETTLED PERIOD WEEKEND SPLIT

BEAUTIFUL STRETCH PRECEDES UNSETTLED PERIOD WEEKEND SPLIT – Good morning everyone. Yesterday’s storms in the New York City area have paved the way for a beautiful 3 1/2 day block of nice weather, then the humidity returns along with an unsettled stretch.

With a light northerly flow and sinking air, we’ll heat that air up one more time today, but it’ll be a dry heat and nothing like yesterday. Look for bright sunshine and highs in the upper 80’s. We cool off slightly tomorrow as the sun continues, highs a spot-on normal mid 80’s. Mid 80’s continue for Friday, but we’ll slowly swing the winds around to a more maritime fetch, signaling trouble ahead.

For the weekend, it looks as if we might squeeze out one more dry one for part of Saturday, then a system approaches to make things interesting late Saturday and Sunday. Highs Saturday in the low 80’s with increasing clouds as the day wears on with low pressure coming out of Canada.

Low pressure will head down from Canada, the upper mid-west, then meander in the Ohio Valley. Due to it’s slow-moving nature and high pressure out in the Atlantic, this will allow spokes of energy to ride up coast ahead of the main low; giving us periods of rain and embedded thunderstorms for a few days.

While we have to wait and see the exact timing and nature of the precip, our first shot as of this moment will be Saturday evening/night for some rain and thunder, then another wave for Sunday, Monday, and even possibly Tuesday. We’re not expecting any cool air out of this as the air will be juicy, muggy, and tropical, but cloudy skies and periods of rain will hold down temps somewhat. Expect low to mid 80’s throughout this period, MAYBE some upper 80’s as the energy finally begins to pull away.

As far as the marine forecast is concerned, ocean temps have crept back up to normal criteria, which means the summer slump will begin soon in the bays when it comes to fluking and stripers. Most of the action will be found outside the inlets, but the only chance for a somewhat comfortable day out there will be today and tomorrow, with tomorrow being the better of the two. After that, all bets are off as seas begin to start building ahead (Friday – Saturday) and during (Sunday – Tuesday) that system.
