ACTIVE COOL NYC APRIL PATTERN CONTINUES ONWARD

ACTIVE COOL NYC APRIL PATTERN CONTINUES ONWARD – Good morning everyone! Well that was an interesting Monday morning with a quick burst of big, wet flakes across the area. Snow fell fast and furious over a wide swath, fast enough to cover most surfaces, and left 3-6″+ across the area in short time before exiting. Snow in April is not fun, especially after the March we had; but thankfully it is April and it has melted in most areas.

Our very active pattern continues onward and we’ll have some rain in the forecast today as a warmer airmass tries to head in temporarily.  Expect periods of steady of rain throughout the day, easterly winds, and a raw mid 40’s. Fog and drizzle drift in tonight, with temps holding steady courtesy of the warm front passing through from our southwest.

Tomorrow will be our warmest day of the week as we await our cold front to swing through. Morning fog and drizzle will be replaced by mostly cloudy skies and the chance of showers and thunderstorms. We’ll have a gusty southerly wind, then it’ll whip around to the WNW and increase after the cold front passes. Look for highs near 60, but we could creep higher if we get a little bit of prolonged sun; of course it’ll be cooler at the coast with that southerly wind.

Use caution tomorrow night away from the City, because temps may hover around or dip below freezing, causing icy areas that were damp or wet from the rain. The sun returns on Thursday, but it’ll be unseasonably cool and windy, highs 45-50. On Friday, a disturbance will pass to our north, giving us the chance of some showers and highs in the mid 50’s. As it passes by, colder air will filter in and it’s possible that any leftover showers may turn to snow showers or a mix as everything departs. No accumulation is expected.

Our weekend snowstorm that many outlets are/were talking about remains elusive. At this point, we’ll have to wait and see if things trend back towards the northwest for us to see any action. Either way, it looks like a fast mover, similar to yesterday, and the mid-atlantic may be in store for a quick taste of what we just had if things don’t change.

Stay tuned.
